Corona quick test in Supermarket

Minister De Jonge expects self-tests for a tenner in the supermarket

The government expects that people will be able to take a corona rapid test themselves from next month onwards. The result of the so-called antigen test is much quicker than that of the PCR test, but it is currently only used in the testing lines.

"Scientific research shows that antigen rapid tests have good reliability and are very suitable as self-tests," states the Ministry of Health.

Faster detection

The Ministry believes that infections can be detected more quickly if people start testing themselves.

"This is how we can cut off the virus," says outgoing minister Hugo de Jonge on his ministry's website. "To make this easier and more accessible, we have to do it differently: not the people to the test street, but the tests to the people. We are therefore now making it possible in the Netherlands for producers of good rapid tests to also make a self-test version of them."
